How To: Connect Google Analytics

A short guide to setting up Google Analytics for your business and adding Talloo so we can track your visibility, including traffic from AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini.

Before You Start

You will need the Google account you already use for your Google Business Profile. If you are not sure what that login is, it is usually the email address you used when you first claimed your business on Google Search or Google Maps.

Find the path below that matches your situation.

Path A: You Do Not Have Google Analytics Yet

Use this path if you have never set up Google Analytics for your business.

  • Go to analytics.google.com and sign in with your Google Business Profile login.
  • Click Start Measuring.
  • Enter your business name as the Account Name, then click Next.
  • Enter your business name again as the Property Name, set your correct time zone and currency, then click Next.
  • Answer the basic business questions, then click Create.
  • Accept the Google Analytics Terms of Service when prompted.
  • Choose Web as your platform and enter your website URL to set up the data stream.
  • Go to Admin in the bottom left corner, then select Property Access Management under the Property column.
  • Click the blue plus icon, then Add Users.
  • Enter the email address we send you separately (our Talloo analytics contact), set the role to Administrator, and click Add.

Once this is done, reply to our email and let us know. We will confirm the connection and install the tracking code on your site if we have not already.

Path B: You Already Have Google Analytics

Use this path if your business already has a Google Analytics account set up, whether you set it up yourself or a previous agency or web developer did.

  • Go to analytics.google.com and sign in with the Google account tied to your existing property.
  • Go to Admin in the bottom left corner.
  • Under the Property column, select Property Access Management.
  • Click the blue plus icon, then Add Users.
  • Enter the email address we send you separately (our Talloo analytics contact), set the role to Administrator, and click Add.

Once this is done, reply to our email and let us know. We will confirm access on our end within one business day.

A Note on Ownership

Your Google Analytics account and all of its data belong to you. Talloo is added as an Administrator so we can build reports and manage tracking on your behalf, but you remain the owner at all times. If you ever end services with Talloo, we simply remove our own access, and your account and all of its history stay fully intact and under your control.

Questions

If you get stuck on any step, reply to our email or call our office and we will walk you through it or set it up together on a quick screen share.

Which Google account should I use for Google Analytics?

Use the same Google account tied to your Google Business Profile. It is usually the email address you used when you first claimed your business on Google Search or Google Maps.

Does Talloo own my Google Analytics account?

No. Your account and all of its data belong to you. Talloo is added as an Administrator to build reports and manage tracking, and you remain the owner at all times.

What happens to my analytics data if I stop working with Talloo?

Talloo simply removes its own access. Your account and its full history stay intact and under your control.

Can Google Analytics track visitors from AI assistants like ChatGPT?

Yes. Once connected, Talloo configures tracking so you can see traffic arriving from AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini alongside your regular search and referral traffic.
